Driving a pickup truck is one of the most exhilarating automotive experiences around. They are efficient, reliable, and safe.
As it pertains to your search for your next pickup, there are two you should absolutely consider—the 2022 Jeep Gladiator and the 2022 Toyota Tacoma. Which one will work for you?
At Country Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM, we want to help drivers in Oxford, PA, Lancaster, PA, and Elkton, MD, figure that out. So, we compared some of the most important features in both trucks.
Let’s jump in!
HORSEPOWER
TOWING CAPACITY
TOUCHSCREEN
This is thanks in part to the engines found in the 2022 Gladiator. The standard a 3.6L Pentastar® V6 engine that provides 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. The second is a 3.0L EcoDiesel V6 engine that produces 260 horsepower and a best-in-class 442 lb-ft of torque.
The Tacoma offers three engines. The standard 2.7L 4-cylinder engine gets 159 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque—a far cry from the Jeep base model. The other two engines pump out the exact same 278-horsepower configurations.
This slightly higher horsepower will most likely go unnoticed during your test drive between the models.
Hauling a heavy load is easy when you have the Gladiator or the Tacoma at your side. For example, the Tacoma has a maximum towing capacity of 6,400 pounds along with a maximum payload of 1,685 pounds when properly equipped.
However, Gladiator can do more. It has a best-in-class maximum towing capacity of 7,650 pounds when properly equipped. The Gladiator also has a maximum payload of 1,700 pounds with the proper configuration.
These kinds of numbers help Gladiator move it all, including:
- Jet ski
- Snowmobile
- Camper
- Fishing boat
How do you make use of your technology? Do you like to listen to music or podcasts when you drive? Do you want to be able to send texts and make calls just by using your voice?
The Gladiator and the Tacoma allow you to do all of that and more thanks to standard wireless Bluetooth® connectivity and a touchscreen display that lets you use your phone’s important features.
Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ also come standard in both vehicles. Both offer available 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspots and the capability to start and locate your truck through an app. Where the Gladiator really stands out is with its two available Uconnect® systems, one of which includes a best-in-class 8.4-inch high-resolution display touchscreen.
Plus, the Gladiator can be capable of so much more thanks to the available Jeep Skill for Amazon Alexa. You can now simply ask your Alexa to start your engine, check fuel levels, or send the address of your destination from the comfort of your home.
Unfortunately, this feature does not make an appearance in the Tacoma.
Regardless of which truck you choose, rest assured you’re getting something reliable and fun to drive. With that said, we at Country Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM think drivers in Oxford, PA, Lancaster, PA, and Elkton, MD, will be head over heels for the Jeep Gladiator based on its towing capacity, engine prowess, and interior technology.
